get rid of AJ, Keep Norv?
« Thread Started on Jan 1, 2012, 10:15pm »

This is an interesting sentiment that keeps popping up as a fan response to the Chargers season. A lot more people are starting to see the chargers recent failures as being the fault of the GM with his personnel decisions than Norv and his coaching. I've never really been a big fan of AJ's and over the last few years have seen him dismantle this chargers team due to his arrogance and douche baggy attitude.

Norv on the other hand seems to have really buckled under the pressure of being a head coach and OC. His clock management was god awful this season, as were some of his play calls in regards to personnel on the field. Just a joke.

Personally, if one had to go, I'd rather see AJ go. The Union Tribunes own Nick Can-it-neppa believes that it would be a mistake to do so. whatever, we're in one of those situations where were damned either way.

They both have to go. Norv is a career underachiever as a head coach. His teams are always undisciplined and undermotivated. They almost always underachieve as a result.

Norv is a good offensive coordinator - when he isn't also the head coach. But he is a lousy head coach. OK, not lousy, just horribly mediocre. A head coach who will NEVER win a Super Bowl no matter how much talent he has on his team.

Both A.J. AND Norv have to go. They have both ruined this team.

And now the bleeding hearts from the UT are making their case for retaining these guys which will further cloud Spanos's judgment. Keeping AJ to help Norv out some more could lead to the second coming of Sammy Davis and the departure of VJ and other critical parts which assuredly will help Norv finish with a losing record next year. What kind of rose colored glasses are these guys looking through? Do we really have to finish 2-14 to get rid of these guys?

I actually had the thought yesterday when I saw the game score. AJ may be the biggest putz in the whole mix!

GM's don't use timeouts and then use a challenge, losing a second timeout. GM's aren't in the locker room at halftime or pre-game to motivate and inspire players. GM's don't use pathetic clock management in two minute situations, call a draw play on 3rd down in OT and punt to play field position in a sudden death situation....Regardless of what happens with either AJ or Norv, here's a reality. Kris Dielman, Nick Hardwick and Marcus McNeill are all likely to retire. That means replacing 3 Pro Bowl offensive linemen. The Chargers are in a serious rebuild mode, and it doesn't just end in the coaching/personnel ranks.

AJ has to go there’s no question. He’s had zero success in the draft in recent years and has drafted the wrong position almost every year.

I don’t like Norv. I think he’s too soft. But he’s not the one who’s brought in no talent.

If they only fire one man it has to be AJ. If Norv can get someone to help him create a disciplined and more fearful environment than he’s not that bad of a coach. He’s a player’s coach but one that players take too much advantage of and needs to put a halt to that.

No matter what happens the owners need to start opening their pockets and sign some key free agents because a rebuild might be too late if Rivers is going to be your QB. Coaching, spending, talent and talent scouting all need to be upgraded in a hurry. If they keep signing a 15 year old vet and then selling it to the fans as a big upgrade and the missing piece they might as well as trade Rivers and Jackson because the team needs a lot more.

There are probably better options right now at GM and Head Coach a change of the guard is needed. Bring in a talented young HC and hire a GM who can rebuild the defense with some good drafts. It hasn't been the same since Jamaal Williams left.

Well, Black Monday is here. Several coaches are $#!+ canned, but not Norv yet.

We should know within 24 hours.

Don't expect a decision soon. Spanos will reportedly take his time.

Absolutely not. A coach HAS to be a motivator. The only replacement is a winning culture like they've built in New England. Other than that it's up to the coach and Norv is so flat and boring. It's no wonder his team goes on massive losing streaks every year.

I would much rather get rid of Norv than AJ.

Source "close to the organization" thinks both could return.

Going into yesterday, my thought was that AJ definitely stays, and Norv is fired.

Now....I am thinking both may return. And yes, the financial cost of the terminations and their replacements will be a big part of Spanos's decision. We KNOW that.

I read about Dielman and Hardwick in the UT. Though, I am not sold they will walk away, as they are in their primes.

In reading McNeill's remarks today, I got the impression he was going to play next year, though you never know.

I'd rather keep Gaither at this point. McNeill's spinal stenosis is degenerative and he's injured virtually every year....and now Norv and AJ are back. There go season ticket sales.

Norv BORING? You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Trust me........that couldn't be further from the truth. You just don't get to see what goes on behind the scenes. I have.

Not since the OC with the Cowboys has Norv been successful and I’d question if Norv would have been a winner with the Boy’s if it were not for Aikman. Bottom line, Norv has never been an achiever under any GM.

IMO this shows how weak Dean is. However I’ll support my home team even if they make stupid mistakes.

I wouldn't discredit Turner as an Off Coordinator. He has done pretty well on Offense, most anywhere he has been including stops in Miami.

As a head coach? That's a different story.
