What basketball news would make Aztecs fans haapy?
Scheduling? No. We have played top teams over the last few years.
Recruiting additional players? Maybe, but Aztecs have more than enough players for next season.
That leaves this. San Diego State will stay in the newly formed MWC/ USA League! Still, not certain how this will affect the Football team move to Big East?
At least, for me, it would be nice if Aztecs reneged on their move to the BIG WEST!

Is playing UNLV and New Mexico twice a year really more important than the overall health of our athletic department?
What basketball news would make Aztecs fans haapy?
Maybe if they are moving the Conference Tournament to Viejas and all games (regular and post season) were being televised on ESPN. But I'm sure that's not the news.

Oh for the love of Gawd folks, get over it. Time for everyone to get on board.
We will have a big announcement in Basketball soon. It will make everyone happy. Amazing what you can learn on road trips.
Only thing I heard coming out of that road trip to Columbus is a certain team we might play next season and it has nothing to do with the carrier game. Just think of a certain team that we will be with in the new Big East for football.

And +1 to James' comment.
No, not time for everyone to get on board. If you think this situation is static or set in stone, you're just plain wrong. There is over a year and a half before Aztec basketball is scheduled (wait, that's right, the BW doesn't even know what to do about scheduling yet...) expected to play a Big West game.
Can any of you Big East/Big West people come up with a source that says the merger would not accept basketball only members?

Things change too fast and there are too many variables that are not constant to use the method you describe. This is called real life. You can't use some soft mamsy pamsy social science model of life. This isn't science, it is game theory.

We're going to play Boise?
HELL YEAH
No not it. A team from back east. Think decent BBQ.

Is playing UNLV and New Mexico twice a year really more important than the overall health of our athletic department?
To me it comes down to a lot more than just playing UNLV and UNM. Advantages of our Olympic sports remaining in the MWC rather than moving to the BWC:
1. The MWC BB tournament in LV. Speculation is that the Bloated American Conference will hold the thing in LV one year and in some location in the south the next. Since I attend only about half the time anyway, that would be perfect IMO.
2. If, along with Boise, we decide BE football ain't all we thought it was going to be, we could more easily create a new western conference and get the NCAA to allow us to retain NCAA tournament credits. (It's unlike we would want any of the BWC schools to join that new conference, unless it was Long Beach and one other for Olympic sports only.)
3. Our men's hoops team will actually be playing in front of >3K fans on a regular basis, rather than less than that amount. (Except for Long Beach, UCSB and maybe Fullerton, BWC games have about the same atmosphere as a HS game.)
4. Our hoops team will continue to get regional attention on a regular basis, whereas in the BWC, I fear nobody outside California is going to pay attention to us until the NCAAs.
5. Our baseball team could continue to vastly underachieve and still win the majority of its conference games. (Not a chance of that happening in the BWC.)

No, but I can provide a proctologist report of the MWC:
Are we talking about the MUSA for bball only? Or playing all sports? My opinion changes significantly in either direction.
We're talking about keeping all options open. Some like that idea, some don't.
It seems football in the Big East is our best bet at the current moment, but basketball in the Big West is unacceptable and many of us want to keep looking for an alternative, be that the merger in bball only, merger in all olympic, or something (anything) else.

There's nothing yet on the merger, but seeing as the MW is looking like the leader of the merger, I'd suspect their rules would still apply.
If they wouldn't change for BYU, do you think they'd change for us?
