"Dakarai Allen picked up a scholarship offer from UCLA on Friday night. His father, Von Allen, talked to Scout.com about that offer, Dakarai's favorite, and his one scheduled official visit."
We need to beat the crap out of UCLA at the Wooden.

I'm willing to bet Allen will be at the game along with just about every other major recruit in socal. The momentum going in to that game is going to be big and everyone will want a piece.
I guess, it'd be tougher for Allen because he lives in sacramento, but if he has not committed by that time, I have no doubt the staff will invite him (if they haven't already).

This is more along my point. This game is huge for our credibility as a basketball program and will reaffirm that we belong.
I don't know if this is the case, but if Allen has had a wet dream about playing for UCLA his whole life and he gets the offer and wants to go there, then our game isn't going to change his mind.
Hell, Winston committed to us over New Mexico the day after they beat us last season.
What is important is finally getting a game against UCLA and they are not in a down year and we have some fire power. No excuses on either side. It's time to play.
UCLA is listed on every top West Coast recruit's list while we are in the running for a few, but we are not THERE yet.
This is probably one of the most important regular season games in our program's history.

There's a very long tradition with UNLV and particularly UCLA, that's hard to match up to when looking at SDSU. And then throw in this quote from the article: He has taken trips to UNLV, UCLA and Pepperdine, with the campuses and facilities of UNLV and UCLA standing out.
We still have a "facilities" deficiency, which I hope is being corrected soon.

Although, newer facilities would be nice for our basketball program, I wouldn't put too much weight on that at the moment. The coaches are doing a fine job building a "grassroots"-type momentum for the program and it's working.
Keep in mind, that in terms of national relevancy, we are still considered the new kids on the block, and until we win more NCAA trouney games that won't change much. I know we have our own dreams of this year's team reaching the final four this year, but if we can at least reach the Sweet 16, that would be huge for our program. In fact, reaching the S16 twice in three years is big time for any program out west that's not AZ/UCLA. Let's do everything we can to win big games during the season, but let's do an even better job during the NCAA tourney and get more of those wins under our belt.
In terms of Allen, we are still his favorite and therefore the team to beat. My point is that, if we do lose Allen to the Bruins based on the work that has already gone in on our end, then the coaching staff didn't do enough to keep him around and interested. Of course, I don't think that's the case, because I sincerely believe we have one of the best staffs in the country. Although UCLA is Allen's "dream school," if you ask me, the offer feels like an afterthought. And yes, like someone else already mentioned, it's better to land Allen with a UCLA offer also in hand than without.
I feel we are still in good shape to land him and would be socked and disappointed if we did not.

Seems to me that the phrase "...favorite", when directed at SDSU, is the kiss of death for us. Kind of like the old bromide about the curse of the Sports Illustrated cover.

I get what you're saying, and perhaps there has been some type of correlation between certain "phrases" and our athletic programs, but I really feel we've turned a new leaf with upcoming recruiting classes both in football and basketball. All we have to do is win to keep the momentum going. Easier said than done, of course.
