To quote the original Rivals story, Koster "flew under the radar" in signing with UCLA. In other words, he was one of the least regarded recruits of the Neuheisel era. Plus, he plays LB, a position of strength for us. So why would we want him?
"Because he's the hero SDSU deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a dark knight." -Commissioner Gordon on Rocky Long
Poster on ASR asking the question, Any truth to the rumor that Wesley Flowers and Jared Koster are going to transfer to SDSU?
He is at Sacramento State. Flowers who Knows? was kicked off the team.
I'm glad Sac State fans think getting Koster is "huge." As you could probably tell, the thought of him being an Aztec didn't exactly float my boat.
I didn't know Flowers was kicked out of UCLA. Considering that Rocky was willing to take a chance on Baxter, maybe that wouldn't absolutely disqualify him from consideration.
Yeah, and I checked and although Flowers was kicked off the team for violating an unspecified rule, unlike the other two kids, Flowers was allowed to attend UCLA's spring camp. If we have a position of need greater than nose tackle, I don't know what it is so maybe Rocky will give him a shot, albeit with the same caveat he had with Baxter: "He knows where he stands with me."

I think we could use him this year but next year? .If he transfers how many years has he got left?

Looks like he would have two years of eligibility left if he sat out this year.
Steve, Flowers redshirted in 2010 so he still has three years of eligibility left. Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but since he will be 21 on December 3, because he would be akin to a BYU player returning from his mission by the time he would be eligible to play for us, that's a good thing for a lineman.
I know we're stacked at LB position, but should the staff look at this l-backer? Bounced down to Butte CC from UCLA. Didn't play much for the bruins, but I don't mind SDSU becoming a bounce-back destination for PAC-12 xfers. For the right reasons of course.

You have 5 years to use 4 seasons of eligibility.
Year 1 redshirt at ucla Year 2 didn't play but still enrolled at ucla Year 3 sit out year to satisfy one year transfer requirement Year 4 eligible Year 5 eligible
Looks like he'd only have 2 years unless he goes D-1AA

Oops. I forgot that BYU gets some kind of waiver of that rule.

Wouldn't any school get the same waiver as BYU for a player who is LDS who goes on Mission?

In case some of you are still wondering about the UCLA transfers. They went the FCS route. One to Sac St and the other to Cal Poly:

How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it. Adam Smith
