 Rivals downgrades 2012 FB Class
« Thread Started on Apr 16, 2012, 2:44pm »

Browsing through the Rivals recruiting info/commits for 2013 I decided to check on something from the 2012 Class.........and lo and behold they have reduced the following players to 2 Star recognition:

Arthur Flores
Malcom Jackson
Eric Judge
Demontae Kazee
Kendrick Mathis

Maybe one of you who has access to these guys can ask them what the hell gives?

That is complete bull$#!+! Those 5 players are all very good and 3 stars. Rivals is turning intio a joke! All of them had offers on the table from BCS schools.

Should definitely motivate these kids more (that is, if they even pay attention or care about the star-rating system) to show what talent they have.

I don't know what to think. New Mexico State....YES, New Mexico State!...now has a better recruiting class than we do. How is that possible?

And most of those guys commited before the Big East, so make your comment, it'll just disprove your point.

Some of you want to sugar coat it, but this was not a good class and was just the same lack of talent we've had for years

With our track record it's very hard to not question our coaching and recruiting abilities, isn't it? I expect the BE to give a big boost to recruiting, but do we have the "horses" to bring them home?

So much talent slightly north of us in the Southern and IE Sections. Yet, this. I'm with Monty here. This class has me nervous about Big East play.

Look, I think the evidence is pretty undisputable that if you have a lot of 4* and 5* recruits you are going to have a very talented team with the opportunity to be nationally ranked in the top 20 year in and year out. However, most of these "elite" programs are in the Top 4-5 conferences.

With that said, the difference between a 3* and 2* player is not all that much. It becomes much more difficult to make that type of evaluation at that level. For example, as has been well chronicled around here, Gavin Escobar and Leon McFadden were both 2* players comming out of high school. Ronnie Hillman was only a 3*. Thus, don't fret over these rankings too much. Aztecs can compete in the Big East with the type of players they have been recruiting recently.

Vincent Brown was also a 2 star.

our problem is never finding one or two good, NFL quality players on the roster (we're one of only 3 D1a teams in Socal for chrissake) it''s depth and quality across the field. That's where all these 2 stars that really are 2stars kills us. Saying brown or McFadden is the exception that proves the rule

Recruiting needs to improve, drastically or we're going to get our heads stomped in in the nBe.

And if you're a program with a track record of using those players to win, you're fine like BSU. Well, now they're getting higher rated recruits. But they made their initial run to the BCS with 2 and 3 star guys in classes ranked outside the top 60.

We're not BSU in terms of winning with those players...not yet I hope. ;D

Based on what? How do you know how good this class will be?
You'd think we were coming off a couple of losing seasons rather than bowl games.

Y'all should take Rocky's advice and stop tripping on the star system. "It's made by people who want to make money."

Oldie Out

A very important aspect in Football recruiting is finding players who actually contribute on the field as opposed to getting hurt or not qualifying. Rocky's (and Hoke) players seem to be getting in with less of an attrition rate than past coaches. Stars are worthless if the guy flunks out or never makes it to school.

Nevertheless, there is a very high degree of correlation between the top twenty schools, with their shiney stars, and those money grubbing evaluators, yes?

Love your optimism ::) How can judge a class that hasn't played a down of D1 football? Do you have a crystal ball?

They were not downgraded. They were never 3 stars to begin with. NM Sate has a bunch of 3 star JC guys.
