 SJSU may present a challenge...
« Thread Started on Sept 9, 2012, 6:54pm »

They barely lost at Stanford 2 weeks ago 20-17 and just beat UC Davis 45-13 while scoring on 7 consecutive possessions. This week Stanford beat duke 50-13. SJSU appears vastly improved.

Ya we will see. Hard to tell by comparing teams like that sometimes. Duke is weak.

Let's see how SJSU does against CSU. CSU doesn't look any better than a year ago when they were lousy so I'm expecting the Spartans to win by 2-3 TDs.

One sobering thing about SJSU's offense to this point is this. Fales, their JUCO transfer QB, is 47-67 for an impressive 70%, but just 493 yards. A dink and dunk offense where completions average just 10.5 yards won't be nearly as effective against our cornerbacks.

No way, give our Aztecs credit. From what I saw last night we're clicking both offensively and defensively. In the past it was always one thing or the other while tossing in that youth excuse. If we remain healthy and don't get overconfident like we were against Wyoming, then we're going to have a big year.

They'll be a challenge in that the game won't be over by half time but we should win by two scores.

No they won't. They have mediocre runningbacks and Fales is nothing special, will be another blowout.

To be fair that $#!+ worked for a half last year against Wyoming, but the linebackers and safeties look to be quicker this year.

As a fan of SJSU football, I think you will see an improved SJSU team. I am going to go down to the game and watch it with my daughter and my family in San Diego. (My daughter is at SDSU and I got my MA at SJSU) These are the two NCAA teams I follow.

SJSU has been slow to start in the past 2 games. They were down by 14 at Stanford in the first half. However, when you look at SJSU's offensive stats, do understand that Stanford has one of the top defensive fronts in all of D1...they are ranked in the top 25 for a reason. For what it is worth, SJSU had more yardage than Stanford in that game. SJSU had the ball in the final 2 minutes and had a 4th down pick with about a minute left at the Stanford 40.

SJSU seemed to be underestimating Davis at first and didn't wake up until the end of the 2nd qtr. They had over 500 yards of offense against Davis. Eskridge had over 100 yards and 3 TD's.

If the receivers stop dropping balls, the passing game could be even more dangerous. Fales signed with Nevada out of HS but saw that Kaepernick was going to be the guy and left to go play at a JC. The team is in good condition for a change. Usually when we had our opening body bag games, we would lose 3 players and we had no depth. Now they have issued all 85 scholarships, which happened for the first time last year.

If the SJSU team that showed up at Stanford goes to San Diego, it could be a dog fight. I just hope for an exciting game. I think SDSU will rightfully be favored, but I don't think it will be a big spread.

They beat UC Davis? Can we just forfeit already?

They beat Davis by 37. Keep in mind that several FBS schools upset FCS schools this week. It could be a tough game, but I, too, think we will win if the team vows to play hard for 60 minutes.

No insult intended, but looking at this week's USATODAY Sagarin ratings I don't think anyone should be taken too lightly...

13 Stanford (SJSU lost by 3)
65 SJSU
68 Washington (SDSU lost by 9)
80 SDSU
158 Davis (SJSU 45 points and 503 yards of offense)
(Davis 13 points 252 yards of offense)
161 Army (SDSU 42 points 443 yards of offense)
(Army 7 points 332 yards of offense)

Both teams lost their PAC 12 game and beat up on their cream puff team. I admit that I am a SJSU fan, and I do think SDSU will be favored, but on paper, I think they are better than you may think. I hope the team shares your sentiment. :)

Sagarin ratings are worthless until about half way through the season.

For the most part I agree that Sagarin ratings are worthless after only 2 weeks, I was just responding to the person who seemed to think the Davis victory was no big deal.

I do think SDSU is a better team, so SJSU being ranked higher than SDSU at this point is meaningless for the most part. I hope people think that SJSU is the same team that was in the APR mess from a few years ago. There are some good players on the team, but they still don't know how to put together a complete game. I would put SJSU on par where SDSU was during the last season of Brady Hoke...rebuilding, beating teams they should beat, but not closing the deal yet on the stronger teams.

Regarding SJSU over Davis, my point was that beating a decent FCS school may not get you into the Top-25, but it surely is far better than losing to an FCS opponent, which is what several FBS schools did this past Saturday.

I think SDSU may be on the verge of having a very good season. Not a sure thing yet, but coming back from a poor start to play Washington tough and then beating the stuffing out of Army certainly points in the right direction. SJSU, as has been suggested, is probably not quite as far along in terms of rebuilding as are the Aztecs. Unless our guys really fall all over themselves, we should pick up win number three against the Spartans.

San Jose, like SD is a hotbed of talent and SJSU is back on the rise, even without Tate Forcier.

Play them hard the same way you play a ranked team.
