I remember one year Monty Jackson was the best cornerback in the NFL, playing for the L.A. Rams. He finished the season with 10 interceptions.
Some other good ones that nobody mentioned were Vernon Dean, Bobby Howard and Tory Nixon.
I forgot about Vernon Dean. He would be a contender for my number 2 behind Willie Buchanon. As would M Jackson, Edwards, Lavender, T Jackson, Howard, Griffith, Russell. Don't forget, John Fox was a good DB too, before he went into coaching. McFadden's got his work cut out for him to move up in the rankings.
Imagine if a year took a century to unfold and you were born in the dead of winter; the coming of summer would seem a frightening change, with temperatures rising dramatically and seemingly without limit.

I recall that Coryell felt Billie Hayes was one of the best corners ever to play for him at State. Billie did not have much of a pro career, but his older brother Tommy, who actually came along later after getting out of the Army had an excellent career as an Aztec, was drafted by Atlanta and if I'm not mistaken was the runner up for rookie of the year honors.

If wins & losses is your kinda thing then you gotta include Billie. Pretty sure he never lost a game as an Aztec (1 tie) & he's a great guy to boot.
“They know we’re gonna play hard to the end. They know we’re gonna be tough guys, we’re gonna run the ball, we’re gonna play-action pass, we’re gonna get after your ass on defense and we’ll see how the score comes out.” - Rocky Long, 2011

Monty and his brother wooped us in intramural hoops, six foot and under division....Monty would steal, go coast to coast and dunk behind his head- great athlete, good guy too.

SDSU had a DB Rueben Henderson who was drafted by the Bears in the early 80's. So he played with Dean. 2 players in the same secondary to be drafted in the NFL doesn't happen too often.
