Re: Pic of new helmet « Reply #60 on Jul 12, 2012, 1:59pm »
Looks like a scarlet helmet that has been rolled through a freshly black-topped street.......and that godawful logotype..........yuuuuuuuuk! Is this for the Army game? Or is it being considered for the standard uniform? Certainly doesn't go with the new jersey look.
Yes, there are many of us who would like 'ol Monty on the helmet, and other uniforms, and gear of San Diego State. But, unfortunately he is gone and the admin. of school will not bring it back.
So, no use crying or complaining. Just have to save your 'ol photos or gear, and don't lose them. They are only memories now.

Does anyone own a trademark on the disgruntled Monty?

Weber is now gone and so to my knowledge is the Native American Students' Association's interest in SDSU sports. They seem to have moved on to more important issues and that's a good thing for both SDSU and them. So I'm not at all convinced that Monty is gone. The red-faced thing, yes, but definitely not the traditional hieroglyph that Marshall rocks and probably also not the Disgruntled version. Put the Marshall Monty on the helmet and see if anybody can complain without looking immensely foolish. If it was good enough for the true Aztecs, it damn well better be acceptable to the PC Police.

So the Native American Students' Association claimed the rights to speak on behalf of a race of people located in Mexico.
I now speak for all people of Portuguese decent living in Southern California because I say so.

Unfortunately, President Weber caved in to their claims, despite heavy majority vote to keep the Aztec logo in 2001 (or was it 2002?).

Weber didn't cave. In hindsight, him working to resolve the issue by compromise pretty much saved the name 'Aztecs' for SDSU.
Caved in in the sense of allowing MEChA/NASA to cause any logo change period. But I totally agree that Weber did a lot in compromising to save the Aztec name

Well the administration did also allow us the brief privilege of a peek into the life of a gay Aztec "warrior" for our mascot.

Sure he did. However, although I like montezumamonty and I get that he's still upset almost a decade later that some here (not me FWIW) complained about going away from the black on black uni, there isn't a single political reason we couldn't put the hieroglyph Marshall wears on the side of our hats.
Jackie Goldberg, who introduced a bill in the legislature to force all public schools to stop using any reference to indigenous people as their nickname, is now busy doing the kind of community activism that termed out legislators do after they've exhausted offices to run for. You know, really important stuff like lobbying the planning commission not to give Panda Express a building permit because pandas are an endangered species.
Opposing the Marshall Monty would be political correctness run amok and I'd like to think my alma mater has bigger balls than that.
