YOUR thoughts on the new BE TV contract?
« Thread Started on Apr 13, 2012, 10:41am »

In terms of money per school (football vs. basketball), length of contract, and with who. I believe ESPN has an exclusive 1 month negotiating window starting in September.

I've got an inkling, but want to hear the board's thoughts

Let me hear it.

Public perception is more important than reality. Thus, public officials try to manage the expectations of the public prior to a deal being reached. To this point, Sterk has stuck with the 6 million number, so at this point, my guess is SDSU will get more than 6 so all of the Presidents, AD's, etc. look like wonderful, genius, negotiators.

Whatever the BE and SDSU are saying add 2 million and you get your number.

I'll go conservative.

NBC

$3-4 million per school (more for the all-sports teams)

—Big games shown on NBC as a doubleheader with Notre Dame
—Saturday triple headers and Thursday/Friday games on NBCSports
—Leftovers on a new Big East Network, which will exist mostly for basketball

I think ESPN ties it up rather than allow nbc sports or fox national to gain a footing. They give the big east the same deal they gave the acc - all rights, 10-12 mil for all sports, 7-8.5 for us and Boise, ESPN looks to tie up SDSU bball as well (big west deal is up in 18months) - SDSU becomes the winter/spring late night darling, boise and sdsu football plays a lot of 730 fball games

A fool and his money - With two or more players at the table, the deal will be for more than it should be.

I think 6.5+ Million for a minimum of 4 years with a renegotiation clause to allow for adjustments after the BCS implements it's changes.

I have faith in Sterk and his minions coming up with a good deal. Hang in there, Matt

I don't think ESPN want's to lose Big East basketball which is tied into football. So they will overpay for Big East football to keep their basketball. My guess is 8-10 million a year.

I hope they get their own network for Tier 3 rights like the mtn. I know the mtn had a bad rap with a lot of people but the nBe will have more inventory 14 teams in football and 18 in basketball. The Teams are also in bigger markets so I think providers will have a much harder time not carrying it. Best case scenario is that Mark Cuban starts the BETV channel. Keep in mind I only want tier 3 games on this channel and tier 1 on ESPN. In todays market I think each nBe Football team will recieve 8 million per year.

My predictions:

If ESPN:

* All games available via ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN3
* Lots of Wednesday/Friday Night Games
* Occasional Saturday games on ABC

If NBC Sports:
* One Big East game on NBC per month
* Six Big East games on NBC Sports (aka Versus) per month
* Inventory falling to CBS College Sports (probably 2 games per week on that channel)
* Rest of the games are not televised.

Regardless, I think that the deal will be for 6 years. I suspect that with two bidders, the total package will demand a high value (5 million per school), especially with this being the last contract of any semi-relevant conference coming up for quite awhile.

Is that for both basketball and football? Or just football only? 'Cause if it's football only, I think you're on crack.

I think we're staring at about $4.5 million for the football only schools, tops. Big East basketball is much more valuable than Big East football at this point.

I think the addition of Memphis portends a good outcome. Otherwise since Tigers football is horrendous and Memphis wasn't exactly being courted by the SEC, I see no point in their addition to the BE.

So $5M+ per annum would be my guess.

Damn, with Pac-12 teams set for about $21 million a year, everything else sounds like chump change. I am thinking $5 million for football only BE members.

Well we have an opt-out claus is FB doesn't get somehting like 70-80%? of the total contract. But opting for 1.2M/year doesnt sound to appealing.

It will be 5 mill+ at least per school for football only, they will get 10-12 mill for all sports.

I don't think there is anyway the all sports schools get double the TV revenue. Combined with NCAA credits, they'll probably get more than double, but TV alone, I think 75% goes to football.

They get around 2/3 now, the contract basically says it is going to be 70percent - we can opt out if it isn't 70 percent.
